Pro-Bono
Derived from the Latin term pro bono publico meaning "for the public good," the term pro-bono refers to professional work undertaken voluntarily and without compensation as a means of applying and contributing our professional skills as a public service or for the public good. As part of our pro-bono work, we routinely provide free consultations, maintain several blogs with topical legal information as well as represent clients. Decisions to take on pro-bono engagements are made on a case by case basis. Some examples:
- Advised tenants on strategy to recover security deposit being wrongfully withheld by former landlord.
- Evicted residential tenant after she failed to pay rent for months, and severely damaged the property, resulting in financial hardship to elderly landlords. Result: Recovered possession and obtained a judgment against former tenant.
- Represented a Somali refugee seeking asylum in the United States. Result: After working with the client for months, we represented him at his individual hearing in Immigration Court, and the Judge granted his application for asylum at the conclusion of his hearing. Case #A 96-499-255.
